Backpack Buddies

Since 2009, The HBC Backpack Buddies program has worked with Georgetown East and Mills Parole Elementary Schools to help children in need. The idea is simple: many students who rely on free or reduced cost breakfast & lunch during the school week are not getting enough food to eat over the weekends. The schools identify students in need and each week during the school year, HBC volunteers pack and deliver ready-to-eat foods for those students to carry home Friday afternoon. Want to help us make a difference? You can volunteer to pack or deliver backpacks, provide needed food items or simply make a monetary gift to this program. For more information, contact the program coordinator through the church office at 410.263.6680

SOUPer Bowl
HBC's SOUPer Bowl lunch to benefit the Light House Shelter is community tradition. Since 2007, we've opened the fellowship hall on Super Bowl Sunday for a donation-only meal of soups, salad, breads and desserts with proceeds going to the Light House in Annapolis, where the homeless can find emergency shelter, transitional housing and life-changing programs. Make your plans to join us for the next SOUPer Bowl!

Teaching our children to think globally can be a challenge. We use the platform of our popular Vacation Bible School to involve our young ones in something outside their own world. Each year, VBS students sponsor a child through World Vision. We set a goal at the beginning of our week-long program and ask kids to consider doing extra chores to earn funds to help. We chart the progress throughout the week and study how the life of our sponsor child is similar/different to the lives of our VBS kids. It is a teachable experience we hope makes a lasting impact!
Food Pantry
Between 50-100 households receive help from HBC's Food Pantry each month. For over 20 years, we have served as a distribution partner with the Anne Arundel County Food Bank. People in need can come to the church on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 9-11 am and receive a bag of groceries from a rotation of volunteers. If you would like to work with us on this vital mission, please call 410.263.6680.
Helping Fund
There are countless families in our city living on the edge of poverty, yet many don't get the help they need. HBC's Helping Fund provides limited emergency funds to help those who have fallen behind and need money to prevent eviction from home or electricity shut-off. If you are in need of help or would like to make a donation to the HBC Helping Fund, contact the church office at 410.263.6680.

Community Service Days
"Church" should be an action word.
As members of the community, we believe it is our responsibility to help our neighbors. At various times during the calendar year, we organize church-wide participation in local activities, such as helping at the homeless shelter, working with Habitat for Humanity or doing yard work and household chores for those unable to help themselves. Notice of these days will be published in our weekly bulletin and our Facebook page. Join us!
Missions Offerings

We believe in supporting those who are doing great things. Three times each year, we launch a extended missions offering campaign to go toward causes that further the teachings of Christ: sharing God's Word with others, feeding the hungry, and helping those in need.  Our Missions Committee oversees these efforts.
